KinderNature: Signs of Fall

Hitchcock Nature Center- Celebrate the season and jump in the leaves as we explore the changing faces of fall. Hit the trails for a leaf hunt and find out how animals are keeping busy in the crisp autumn weather.

KinderNature preschool programs are designed for children ages 3-5 years old accompanied by an adult. These unique programs are full of hands-on learning and outdoor activities that encourage curious minds to explore and engage with the natural world. Each program will introduce children to a new and unique nature theme, and includes stories, crafts, and outdoor exploration. Programs are held each month and last an hour. Cost: $5.00 per child. Ecological Immersion Program: Tree Planting Ecology and Practice

Hitchcock Nature Center – The Ecological Immersion Program (EIP) is a new series offered in partnership with Pottawattamie County Conservation and New Tree School. Targeted to dedicated students of nature, including any adult committed to the culture, care and preservation of native communities. This session will be led by Jack Phillips, New Tree School. These sessions will include vigorous outdoor activity, regardless of weather. Course cost: $125.00 per person. Space is limited; student tuition discounts available. Enchanted Forest

Hitchcock Nature Center- Wear your costumes and bring little ones for a special Scooby Doo themed trail at Hitchcock. Event will include pumpkin painting and carving, modern day apple bobbing, and refreshments. Please meet at the trailhead. Cost: $10.00 per family. Weather permitting.

Hitchcock Nature Center- What goes bump in the night? Find out about nocturnal animals and the acute senses they use to move and find food. Journey on a nocturnal animal hike in search of clues they’ve left behind in the daytime.

HawkWatch Eagle Migration

Hitchcock Nature Center- Hitchcock has been recognized as one of the top 5 hawkwatches in the world for viewing migrating bald eagles and November is the ideal time to view these majestic animals on their journey south. The annual event will also include live raptor demonstrations by Raptor Recovery Nebraska, activities for children, scheduled programs and refreshments. Cost: $5.00 per person, children 5 and under admitted free. Weather permitting.

Hitchcock Nature Center- Feast your mind on Iowa’s felines, including the bobcat and mountain lion. Discover their reclusive lifestyles and how they stalk their prey. Feel soft furs, look at their teeth up close, and see how big their prints are next to your own.
