Organized in 2003, CERT is a voluntary program that trains citizens in disaster preparedness skills. Since major disaster can disrupt or overwhelm local emergency resources, this program trains citizens in skills so they can immediately provide assistance to their families and neighbors following disaster. Once citizens graduate the basic CERT training, they can volunteer in numerous areas of disaster assistance with Emergency Management as an active team member. Training in specialized areas of assistance are provided for functions such as, but not limited to: Volunteer & Donations Management, Disaster Animal Shelter & Care Operations, Emergency Operations Center Staff, Mass Vaccination Clinic Staff, EOC Severe Weather Operations Staff as well as participate in training new CERT students and public outreach programs.
