Auditor

Elections:
The elections department is a part of the County Auditor's office. The Auditor's Office handles all voter registrations for people who move into or within the county. The department administers the elections from nomination paper filing to preparation of the final abstract of votes including preparation of ballots, publication of the election, acquisition of polling locations and assignment of election workers, processing all absentee ballots, and counting the ballots by processing them though ballot readers and compiling the results.

Taxes:
Taxes are prepared annually by the Auditor's Office and are due September 1st (Delinquent October 1st) and March 1st (Delinquent April 1st).

All transfers of property are accomplished in the Auditor's Office and a permanent record retained.

Credits:
Iowa offers homestead, military, family farm, agricultural land and disabled credits to eligible property owners. Disabled credit applications are available in the Treasurer's Office. All other credit applications are available in the Assessor's Office.

Payroll:
The Auditor's Office is responsible for the payroll for all county employees. There are currently 400 employees. Payroll includes 26 annual pay periods, and payroll is responsible for all withholding reports; for all insurance related matters such as the federal government flex plan, health insurances, cancer and life insurance plans; the IPERS Retirement Plan.

Accounts Payable:
The Auditor's Office is responsible for the payment of all bills incurred by all departments of the county. This includes daily, monthly and annual balancing with the Treasurer's Office. Bills are approved by the Board of Supervisors prior to payment. All bills paid must be published for public information. The public may review all bills upon request.

Budget:
The County Auditor is responsible for the preparation and calculation of the county budget. The Auditor compiles all department budget requests and submits same to the Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors for final approval. After state certification, the County Auditor compiles all taxing authority budgets to levy the taxes.

Clerk to the Board of Supervisors:
The County Auditor, by Code of Iowa, serves as secretary to the Board of Supervisors during all official meetings. The Auditor is also chief custodian of the court house.
