Park Ranger Intern Positions

Dates:  Program runs May 15 through September 15 (as school schedule permits)

Description:  Duties involve management of county parks under a full time Park Ranger, supervision of other seasonal staff and volunteers, collection of fees, public safety, public relations, planning of events, light construction, park maintenance, environmental education, and other duties as required.  Work duties are generally performed out of doors and in inclement weather.  Job duties require a considerable amount of physical activity, including walking, standing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, stooping and climbing. Employee must have the ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs. and possess the coordination and manual dexterity to handle tools and equipment involved in maintenance, construction and repair tasks.

Qualifications:  Must be at least 18 years of age.  Cannot have been convicted of a felony in the past two years.  Must have a valid drivers license and a good driving record.  Prefer someone pursuing a career in a natural resource related field. 

Other:  Non-standard workweek that will include holidays, evenings and weekends. Professionalism and good public relations are essential, as is time management. Internships may qualify for college credit.  Job performance evaluations will be completed. 

Salary:  Pay will be $7.25 - $10.00 per hour depending on experience.  Some uniform provided.

Locations:  Pottawattamie County, Iowa, park and recreation areas:  Arrowhead Park, Narrows River Park, Hitchcock Nature Center, Botna Bend Park, Olde Town Park, Farm Creek Public Wildlife Area and other smaller areas as assigned.

Animal Control Officer

The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors is announcing a hiring process for the full-time position of Animal Control Officer.  The full-time work schedule may include evenings, weekends and holidays.  Pottawattamie County is an equal opportunity employer.

Essential Job Duties: Under general supervision, the Animal Control Officer enforces state and local laws regarding unlicensed, stray and uncontrolled animals.  Investigates complaints, captures animals, and answers questions/concerns of the general public.

Minimum Qualifications: Must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of hire and maintain it throughout the course of employment. 

Must possess and maintain an Animal Control Certification from the National Animal Control Association throughout the course of employment.  If uncertified at the time of hire, must obtain certification within a time frame established by the Employer.

Must possess and maintain Certifications in Chemical Capture and Humane Euthanasia throughout the course of employment.  If uncertified at the time of hire, must obtain certification within a time frame established by the Employer.

Must successfully pass pre-employment screenings including background investigation, medical physical including back screen and drug test.
