Web Services
(Maps)

The GIS Department maintains several Web-based applications for the various needs of other county departments and the citizens of Pottawattamie County.  Each are listed below with short descriptions.

Main GIS Website (launched June 2009)
Main GIS WebsiteThis site is an upgrade to the site it replaced.  It is easier to use, logical, offers better searches, has prettier maps and provides more data including Council Bluffs Zoning and Historic Aerial Photography.

Original GIS Website (launched June 2004)
Original SiteThis is our original map service and still offers many valuable features that you may find useful including nearly 100 layers of data including land records, points of interest, environmental, and aerial imagery.
This site will be turned off in early 2010 once the new site becomes comfortable for our users.

CountyConnection.org (launched in June 2008)
CountyConnection.org LinkThis website is a joint effort provided by the Transition Advisory Committee and the GIS Department.  This site is intended to help local residents of Pottawattamie County find the human services they need.

ArcGIS Business Analyst Online
ArcGIS BannerThe Council Bluffs Chamber of Commerce and WIDA have access to a new demographic reporting tool.  It creates reports and maps that summarize by drive times or distances from any location.  The reports include many demographic categories: population, education, income, spending, race, gender, age, housing, etc…for the current year (not 2000)! Contact WIDA or the CB Chamber for information on how to utilize this service.

Section Corner Search
This site organizes the counties control points.  It includes the scanned certificates, images of the location, links to maps, and of course the coordinates themselves.

Hitchcock Nature Center 3D Mapping Project
This site is not really a site at all.  It was developed for the Nature Center’s newly renovated Lodge.  The lodge has many new exhibits including this one set up on a large flat screen TV.  Be sure to visit HNC to see all the new displays including this one.  This map requires a download of 3rd party software called ArcGIS Explorer which is similar to Google Earth.  Click here to see the steps necessary to get this tool up and running.

Parcel Number Tools:

  • Parcel Number Conversion Tool: in July 2007 the county converted to a new parcel numbering system.  This tool will tell you the new number if you type in the old number and vice versa.
  • Parcel Genealogy Tool: since October of 2006 the GIS Department has been tracking parcel history.  As parcels split or combine there is a trail of history that we have always tracked as a county, but as of October 2006 it is now available digitally
